About

Our Mission and Values

Our Mission and Values - 1

Individuals from any economic or cultural environment can learn how to identify, speak, and write about what they value in themselves and others.

Our Mission and Values - 2

Participants develop skills from exercises that help them find their identity and purpose by first identifying what inspires them about qualities in themselves. Then they start to see things they can acknowledge and honor in those around them. Finally they bring their newfound skills to people engage with in their community and the greater world.

Our Mission and Values - 3

The confidence and positive feedback received due to the practical exercises assigned within the program helps bring out the leadership qualities inherent in all people, and inspires them to be their best at all times.

Annette Wilson

Founder

Annette Evans Wilson taught English in high school for 20 years in a low income, inner city high school where she discovered that the thing that held students back was a lack of knowledge of who they are and what they are capable of. As she began to integrate identity and leadership skills into her English curriculum, she saw students develop skills that they carried into their families, school, and community. After retiring, she developed YOU Life Skills and Leadership as a three-tiered program to continue helping adolescents develop the skills embodied by the YOU program: Know YOURSELF, Reach OUTWARD, Seek UNDERSTANDING.

After the COVID Pandemic, this message resonated with people, young and old. As a result, she branched out with classes in Life Skills and Leadership, Self-Worth, Time Management, Soft Skills, and Job Reentry, all based on personal identity and values.

By taking her own life motto: My past taught me “I can’t” – My present convinced me “I will” – My future will prove that “I did” into the community she serves, she has been able to motivate others to reach beyond what they have been told is impossible into a world of the possible.

Mark Wilson

Co-Founder - Board Treasurer

Mark Wilson was raised in Southern California in a home that was influenced by alcohol and wartime PTSD.  Throughout his youth he learned the benefits of mentorship as, thanks to mentors, he became an Eagle Scout, graduated High School, and received an associate degree in computer science at a time when computers were still new.  His appreciation for mentorship became even more important when he became a bonus father for two teenage boys after marrying Annette.  In addition to these boys he continued to raise as his own, Mark mentored others who went on to become successful entrepreneurs, businessmen, and scientists.

Mark’s attention to detail served him well as he spent nearly 20 years working for himself in Wilson Tax and Bookkeeping.  He later performed workers compensation audits until his “retirement” when his help was needed to perform the business aspects of YOU Life Skills and Leadership.  Bringing to the table the knowledge that Annette lacked, Mark performed the business duties needed to help Annette fulfill her dream of starting YOU Life Skills and Leadership Educational Foundation.
