It isn’t easy to express my deep gratitude for the chance to partner with the Speak, Feed, Lead project as we experienced our Tanzania 2024 Health | Hope | Higher Aspirations mission. To those of you who sponsored financially, donated supplies, raised funds, shared our campaigns, helped us logistically, and in so many other ways, I will forever appreciate your part in putting smiles on the faces of the children we served.
Here’s a rundown of our achievements in the 14 days the Tanzania team spent in Moshi and surrounding areas:
- We met and presented to1000 primary and secondary school students
- Because of the hygiene supplies we provided, 500 girls will stay in school
- Hundreds of boys and girls were provided with basic supplies such as socks, soap, mirrors, underwear, combs, etc.
- Approximately 30-35 youth stood up in front of their peers and gave a speech for perhaps the first time
- Sports equipment was provided for about 30 kids
- Approximately a dozen women currently in cancer treatment were provided supplies and support to bring a little more comfort in the way of mastectomy bras, inserts, beanies, scarves, and wigs, as well as cooling caps, mittens, and booties
- The Arise and Shine group of 35 entrepreneurial women in Moshi were given $500 to assist in providing loans and other support to their members
- Members of a small church were inspired through testimony and song to continue being warriors and seekers of truth in God’s army.
- And in so many other ways, a piece of my heart was planted in Tanzania
YOU Life Skills and Leadership Educational Foundation looks forward to continuing our mission in Tanzania as we move toward our 2025 initiative. Here are some of the things currently in the works:
- The YOU Life Skills and Leadership Know Yourself program will become part of the public school curriculum and is raising money to continue working on the curriculum and training teachers and facilitators how to use this vital program to help students become leaders in their communities.
- YOU Life Skills and Leadership Education Foundation has already donated an industrial-strength sewing machine and supplies to one school and is continuing to raise funds to provide sewing machines and sewing instructors to additional schools.
